September 2017 IPCC Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) Observed Climate Change Impacts Database, Version 2.01 PURPOSE To provide a database with observed responses to climate change for multidisciplinary studies. DESCRIPTION The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Fifth Assessment Reports (AR5) Observed Climate Change Impacts Database, Version 2.01 contains observed responses to climate change across a wide range of systems as well as regions. These responses include systems for which climate change has played a major role in observed changes, regional-scale impacts where climate change has played a minor role, and sub-regional impacts. Impacts on physical, biological, and human systems were differentiated, and the area impacted can vary from specific locations to broad areas such as a major river basin. The database is distributed by the Columbia University Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN). The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Fourth and Fifth Assessment Reports (AR4 and AR5) documented observed responses to climate change. Chapter 18 of the Working Group II report of AR5 summarizes a range of impacts observed around the world based on a detailed analysis of the peer-reviewed literature since AR4. In AR5 Figure 18.3, global patterns of observed climate change impacts were reported since AR4. This downloadable spreadsheet version of the bibliographic database reproduces Figure 18.3 and Tables 18-5 to 18-9 from the AR5 Working Group II report and the references are explicitly mentioned in the table in alphabetical order. Column C contains clickable URLs to the original literature (published papers or reports). ACCESSING THE DATA The data may be downloaded at http://sedac.ciesin.columbia.edu/data/set/ipcc-ar5-observed-climate-impacts-v2-01/data-download DATA FORMAT This archive contains tabular data in MS Excel (XLSX) format. The data files are compressed zipfiles. Downloaded files need to be uncompressed in a single folder using either WinZip (Windows file compression utility) or similar application. Users should expect an increase in the size of downloaded data after decompression. DATA VALUES Data values are bibliographic references and links. SPATIAL EXTENT Global.
